Amazon has announced a new product to their Echo lineup called the Amazon Echo Show. It is essentially the original Amazon Echo combined with the a video camera for video calls and a 7 inch display. It has a retro 50’s video intercom look making for a cool looking product if you’re into that kind of stuff. As I read through the description of the product on Amazon.com I wanted to see why Amazon thought this needed to exist. Besides being able to do what the original Amazon Echo can do, here are the features the Echo Show has to offer over the original Echo:
- Watch the news briefing versus just listening to it
- Watch videos from YouTube
- See the music lyrics for a song that is playing from Amazon Prime Music. Try Amazon Music Unlimited 30-Day Free Trial
- You can have it show you what’s on an Alexa integrated security camera
- Call or message your family and friends that also have an Echo or the Alexa App. Calling and Messaging are free sorta. They have you verify your cell phone number. They then use your phone data to make calls and send messages but not use your text messages or phone minutes.
- See your Prime Photos from Amazon.

Most of the things you can do on the Echo Show can be handled by your smartphone or the original Echo. What Amazon has done is combine these into one device. But it’s the ability to do these things hand-free with just your voice is what makes this product stand out mainly because Alexa does such a great job at understanding voice commands. It’s definitely a nice premium product if you don’t already have the original Echo or if you’re looking to already upgrade. Plus, like I mentioned before, the great retro video intercom look would look great in any home.
