Android Nougat 7.1.2 update is breaking the fingerprint sensor

Since I started my website last year I’ve unfortunately become aware to how unreliable Android updates can be.  Although I hold Google to high standards, I can’t seem to do the same for these phone updates.  Apparently Nougat 7.1.2 update is breaking the fingerprint sensor on Pixel and Nexus phones!  I mean, come on Google!

People have taken to the forums to complain about this issue.  Others are chiming in saying it didn’t happen to them.  Working in the software industry, this is a worst case scenario.  Inconsistent outcomes are difficult to deal with.  Although I’m sure Google will be able to fix the issue, it may take a bit longer to determine how it’s caused.  For now, Google is in the initial step of gathering data from everyone.

Specifically this affects the Pixel and Pixel XL as well as the Nexus 5X and 6P. So if you have one of these phones and aren’t necessarily itching to get the update, wait until this is fixed.

What do you think?  Am I right to feel hesitant about Android updates?  Did you update your phone?  If so did it work for you?  Let me know your thoughts in the comments below.
